-- The UK Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and Sovico Group light up the Saigon Marina IFC tower from 6:00 pm to midnight on November 6–13 to celebrate and strengthen the Vietnam–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Society

-- Vietnam’s foreign ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on Thursday that about 70 Vietnamese citizens had fled from Myanmar to Thailand as of October 22 amid Myanmar’s crackdown on facilities linked to criminal and online scam activities, as per figures from the Vietnamese Embassies in Thailand and Myanmar.

-- By late Thursday night, storm Kalmaegi — the 13th storm this year — had caused severe damage across several coastal areas in Vietnam, eastern lowlands of Dak Lak (former Phu Yen), and eastern Gia Lai (former Binh Dinh).

-- Schools across Da Lat announced on Thursday evening that students would stay home due to the impact of storm Kalmaegi.

-- On Thursday afternoon and evening, traditional markets and supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City, though outside storm Kalmaegi’s direct path, saw a spike in shopping out of concerns about the typhoon and rising tides, leaving many items like vegetables and eggs sold out or in very limited supply by night.

-- Vietnamese goods sold on Amazon jumped nearly 35 percent in the first seven months of 2025, as the company expressed its desire to make Vietnam a high-quality e-commerce export hub for Southeast Asia.

-- Vinspace, a newly established company founded by Vietnam's richest man Pham Nhat Vuong and his two sons, focuses on scientific research and technology development in natural sciences, alongside activities such as air cargo transport, aircraft and spacecraft manufacturing, and satellite telecommunications.

-- A securities regulator said Vietnam will initially allow the offering and issuance of tokenized assets only to foreign investors to attract international capital while it finalizes regulations and raises public awareness.

-- At the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation - Vietnam held in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday, veteran actors Sammo Hung and Louis Koo met with Vietnamese media, expressing their strong impressions of Vietnam’s culture and cuisine and their desire to explore the market and pursue future film-production collaborations.

World News

-- At a climate summit in Brazil on Thursday, world leaders lamented the breakdown of global unity on climate action, criticizing the U.S. government’s climate denial while insisting they remain committed to their goals, Reuters reported.

-- Google has signed its largest carbon-removal agreement to date, partnering with Brazilian startup Mombak to help restore the Amazon rainforest as major tech companies seek high-quality credits to offset emissions from their energy-intensive data centers, according to Reuters.
