-- President of Panama Jose Raul Mulino and his spouse will pay an official visit to Vietnam from October 5 to 8 at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President of Vietnam To Lam and his spouse, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

-- Vietnam and the U.S. have made positive progress in negotiations toward an early conclusion of a fair and balanced reciprocal trade agreement so as to create a stable, long-term framework for bilateral economic, trade and investment ties, spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said on Thursday, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

-- Hai Phong City, northern Vietnam, has proposed studying toll reductions to encourage container trucks to use Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway in order to ease congestion on National Highway 5.

-- The investigative police agency under the Department of Public Security of Ha Tinh Province, north-central Vietnam, said on Thursday that it launched a criminal case and charged five suspects for allegedly ‘disturbing public order’ as the group rode three motorbikes at high speeds, raced each other, weaved through traffic and revved their engines on National Highway 1.

-- Residents of Tan Ly Village in the north-central province of Quang Tri found large numbers of dead fish washing ashore along a one-kilometer stretch of coastline on Thursday.

-- Passengers traveling free of charge on buses in Ho Chi Minh City must complete an identity verification procedure when boarding, starting on Thursday.

-- Germany is Vietnam’s natural and committed partner, ready to bring advanced technologies and extensive expertise to the latter’s sustainable, long-term development strategy, German Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Andrea Sühl said at a ceremony at the Deutsches Haus in Saigon Ward on Thursday night to mark the 36th anniversary of German Unity Day (October 3).
