-- Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong attended a special dinner for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders, hosted by President of South Korea Lee Jae Myung, on Wednesday night. The banquet marked the first in the series of activities for leaders within the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in South Korea.

Society

-- Due to the impact of the strengthening northeast monsoon, heavy rain is forecast to batter the north-central region and to last until November 1, according to the national weather center.

-- Specialized vehicles and rescue equipment from Brigade 680 of Naval Region 3, based in Da Nang City, central Vietnam, were deployed to the flood-stricken areas of Dai Loc and Ha Nha Communes to rescue residents trapped by rising waters on Wednesday.

-- Two trains carrying over 1,100 metric tons of rock have been deployed to add weight and prevent the Bach Ho and Da Vien railway bridges in Hue City, central Vietnam from being washed away as floodwaters rose again on Wednesday.

-- Four fishing boats anchored on the Tra Bong River were swept away by floodwaters toward the Sa Can estuary in Van Tuong Commune, Quang Ngai Province, central Vietnam on Wednesday. Two vessels were rescued in time, while the other two drifted out to sea and ran aground in rough waves, an official said on Wednesday.

-- Ho Chi Minh City aims to convert 50 percent of motorbikes used by ride-hailing drivers and public officials to electric vehicles by 2027.

-- Over the past three days, Hue City has been submerged in floodwaters, while teachers from the Hue University of Sciences have braved the floods to buy food and cook meals for dozens of students sheltering on campus.

-- Police in An Long Commune, Dong Thap Province, southern Vietnam reported on Wednesday evening that a night patrol team had discovered four individuals stealing dogs, arresting three of them and seizing 24 dead dogs along with various tools used for dog theft.

Economy

-- Starting from November 1, the sale of paper tickets containing QR codes will be suspended at ticket counters in Thao Dien, An Phu, Binh Thai, Thu Duc, and Saigon Hi-Tech Park stations along metro line No. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway No. 1 Company Limited, the operator of the metro line, announced on Wednesday evening.

-- Several beer firms ended the third quarter of 2025 with positive results thanks to lower raw material prices such as malt and rice. For example, Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Joint Stock Corporation (Sabeco) reported third-quarter net revenue of over VND6.4 trillion (US$244 million), down 16 percent year on year, but its post-tax profit rose nearly 21 percent to VND1.4 trillion ($53.3 million), marking the highest quarterly profit in the past 13 quarters.

-- The sixth World Culinary Awards on Thursday last week announced the winners at a celebratory dinner reception in Sardinia, Italy, with Vietnam being crowned 'Asia’s Best Culinary Destination.’
