-- Vietnamese lawmakers are proposing sanctions for heads and managers of smoke-free places who fail to properly enforce the smoking ban or merely put up no-smoking signs without taking measures to ensure compliance.

-- Inspecting the Long Thanh International Airport project as it near 80 percent completion on Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc instructed that construction speed must not compromise safety and quality, adding that no flights should be launched until all standards are fully met.

-- Two steam locomotives dating back to the 1960s have been test-run on the railway over Hai Van Pass between Hue and Da Nang to assess bridge and track load capacity and the locomotives' safety before an official evaluation, with the train carrying both freight and passenger cars during the technical test.

-- Authorities found five more sets of martyrs’ remains at Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday, bringing the total number of sets of remains unearthed at the location to 718.

-- The second World Cultural Festival 2026 on Sunday evening wrapped up at the The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long in Hanoi after four days, bringing together 50 countries and international organisations with 45 cultural spaces, 19 international art troupes, 35 food booths and a film program featuring works from nearly 20 national cinemas.

-- The 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA 2026) on Sunday concluded at Phenikaa University in Hanoi, with all ten participating Vietnamese students winning medals, including six golds and four silvers.

Sports

-- Head Coach Kim Sang Sik affirmed that Vietnam are fully determined to beat Malaysia in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 third-place match today (October 5) at Gelora Bung Karno, despite missing key players due to muscle injuries.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Open 2026 Badminton Championships for middle-aged and senior players and other age groups wrapped up at the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Sports Center in Tam Thang Ward on Sunday after three days of competition, bringing together 375 players from 31 clubs and organizations to compete in 22 events across nine age groups for total prizes worth over VND400 million (US$15,393).
