-- Leaders of Southeast Asian countries, the United States, South Korea, Japan, France, and others have sent congratulatory messages, letters, and notes to the leaders of the Party, the State, and the people of Vietnam on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2).

-- Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong on Wednesday met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing on the occasion of his attendance at the 80th anniversary of the world people's victory over fascism and a working trip to China.

Society

-- The Politburo has called for the urgent implementation of the Ninh Thuan 1 and Ninh Thuan 2 nuclear power projects in south-central Vietnam, aiming to make them operational between 2030 and 2035.

-- The northern region and provinces from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh are forecast to see some sunshine on Thursday, after weeks of prolonged rain caused by storms and low-pressure systems, while many localities in the central and southern regions might experience scattered showers and some thunderstorms in the late afternoon, according to the national weather center.

Economy

-- Tran Chi Hung, vice-chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City in southern Vietnam has signed a decision allowing VSIP Can Tho Joint Stock Company, which is currently using over 293 hectares of industrial park land in Vinh Trinh Commune - VSIP Can Tho Industrial Park, to pay land rent annually. Under the previous decision, the company was required to pay the land rent in a lump sum for the entire lease term.

-- Vietnam Airlines Group, comprising Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, and VASCO, has begun the sale of tickets to meet rising travel demand during the 2026 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, with over 3.5 million tickets offered for domestic and international flights between February 2 and March 3, 2026.

Tourism

-- Ho Chi Minh City is moving toward becoming an attractive international tourism megacity, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duoc said at an art program opening the International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City (ITE HCMC 2025) on Wednesday night.

Environment

-- Attending the 18th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment (AMME-18) and 20th Meeting of the Conference of Parties to the ASEAN Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution (COP-20 AATHP) in Langkawi, Malaysia on Wednesday, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Le Cong Thanh urged ASEAN member countries to take more decisive and substantive action to protect the environment, toward a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient future for the region, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

World News

-- At least 15 people died and 18 were injured on Wednesday when Lisbon's Gloria funicular railway car, which is popular with tourists and is one of the city's symbols, derailed and crashed, Reuters reported.
