Police in Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City arrested a Vietnamese man on Friday for snatching a necklace worth approximately 300,000 rupees (US$3,542) from an Indian female tourist.

At around 7:00 pm on Friday, Majji Sirisha, an Indian national, reported to Ben Nghe police that a man on a motorbike had snatched her necklace near the intersection of Mac Thi Buoi Street and Dong Khoi Street.

Leveraging surveillance footage and investigative techniques, officers identified the suspect as Hoang Van Chung, a 34-year-old with a previous conviction for theft.

By 10:00 pm the same day, officers brought Chung in from his residence in Tan Binh District for questioning.

Chung admitted to having snatched the necklace, which was promptly recovered and returned to the tourist on Saturday.
