On Tuesday evening, she shared a series of photos on social media to mark her 39th birthday, in which she appeared in the striking dress, attracting hundreds of thousands of reactions and comments.
The design comes from Phan Huy’s Ready-to-Wear Spring/Summer 2025-26 collection.
Featuring a fitted silhouette with a subtly flared skirt, the dress is constructed from multiple horizontal tiers of pleating that run down the length of the garment.
The designer told Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper that the surface of the dress is covered with a shimmering layer that creates a light-catching effect.
Its defining detail is a combination of beads and crystals embedded inside curving horsehair braid tubes.
Huy said that the technique allows the sparkling elements to shift and catch the light with every step while maintaining the garment’s light, minimalist appearance.
Liu’s team contacted the designer and selected the gown for her birthday celebration, retaining the original silhouette of the design.

The designer said he was honored to create a look for Liu on such a special occasion.
“I feel deeply honored and grateful that my design was selected by actress Liu Yifei for her birthday celebration,” he said.
“The trust placed in me is a great source of motivation for the brand to continue refining and developing the value of Vietnamese craftsmanship in the future.”
Liu Yifei is a familiar face in Chinese cinema and television, known for her roles in productions including The Return of the Condor Heroes, Chinese Paladin, A Dream of Splendor, and The Tale of Rose.
Born in 1999 in Quang Tri Province, north-central Vietnam, Phan Huy graduated from the University of Architecture Ho Chi Minh City.
He is among the young Vietnamese designers whose work seeks to celebrate the country's cultural identity, people, and natural beauty through fashion.
His designs have been worn by numerous Vietnamese celebrities.
Phan Huy's creations have also appeared on international stars, including singers Ginta, Kesha and Chloe Bailey, actresses Heart Evangelista and Desi Lydic, and other celebrities such as Zhang Baizhi, Lu Yuxiao and Sophia Bush.
His designs have additionally been worn by models and fashion figures including Coco Rocha, Anna Olbrycht, Stephania Morales and Leoni Hanne, as well as beauty queen Zozibini Tunzi.
