The provincial Department of Public Security on Monday confirmed the arrest of Huang Shaoning, a 54-year-old Chinese national, who is under investigation for a series of break-ins at offices, businesses, and homes where safes were targeted.

According to initial findings, Huang entered Vietnam from Guangxi Province with an accomplice via an illegal border crossing in northern Lang Son Province.

The two then bought an old motorbike before traveling to Quang Tri.

There, they allegedly scouted targets at night, breaking into offices, companies, and residences to pry open safes and steal cash and valuables.

Between March and August 2025, they reportedly committed four thefts and stole nearly VND2 billion ($75,730).

During questioning, Huang admitted to the crimes.

He said that after running out of money, he came to Vietnam to steal, targeting locations with lax security and breaking in around midnight using a metal bar to open safes.

Police are expanding the investigation and searching for the other suspect, who is also a Chinese national.
