Churches in Da Nang draw crowds as Christmas lights switch on

Churches across Da Nang in central Vietnam were lit up on Sunday evening as Christmas decorations drew large crowds of residents and tourists, signaling the start of year-end festivities in the coastal city.

From the late afternoon, areas around major churches became busier than usual, with visitors gathering to view illuminated Christmas trees, light displays, and seasonal installations and to take photos.

At Phu Ha Parish Church in Hoa Khanh Ward, a large LED lighting system and a towering Christmas tree attracted crowds from around 6:00 pm.

Parishioners said preparations had been completed earlier than usual this year to accommodate visitors.

Similar scenes were reported at Da Nang Cathedral and several Protestant churches, where local parishes said volunteers and security staff had been deployed to maintain order as visitor numbers increased in the days leading up to Christmas.
