Le Hong Thai, chairman of the People’s Committee of Nhon Mai Commune, confirmed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Monday evening that the video was filmed by a local resident earlier that morning.

At the time, the area was experiencing heavy rain caused by storm No. 5, a reference to storm Kajiki, which is raging in Vietnam.

Rapidly rising floodwaters from upstream posed a serious threat to several households in the remote village of Pha Mut.

The stream near the village became dangerously violent due to the surge, cutting off safe passage.

Officials from Nhon Mai Commune, Nghe An Province, north-central Vietnam wade through a swiftly flowing stream to help more than 120 residents cross safely.

In response, commune officials organized an emergency evacuation.

They gathered the villagers into small groups and guided them across the stream one by one.

The rescue group included commune officials, local police, military personnel, and some residents.

A total of 27 households with over 120 people from Pha Mut Village were relocated to Tan Mai Village, which is a safe shelter, Thai said.
