Cuba ambassador seeks stronger media ties during visit to Vietnam’s Tuoi Tre

Cuba’s ambassador to Vietnam on Friday called for stronger media cooperation between the two countries during a visit to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper's headquarters, and said he hoped to contribute articles to the publication.

Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes and Consul General Mauricio Alejandro Martínez Duque met Editor-in-Chief Le The Chu and staff at the newspaper.

Polanco Fuentes said Cuba was facing economic difficulties under an embargo and challenges in the information environment, adding the country was focusing on developing digital media.

Le The Chu said Tuoi Tre had reported on Vietnam-Cuba cooperation, including Vietnam's calls to lift the embargo and public support campaigns, and aimed to connect people, especially younger generations, in both countries.

The ambassador said media outlets should expand cooperation to share information, noting upcoming coordination with Vietnamese authorities to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Fidel Castro.

He added he had worked in journalism from a young age and previously served as an editor-in-chief, and expressed interest in writing for Tuoi Tre.

The Cuban delegation also toured the newsroom and met reporters and students during the visit.
