In a message shared on social media platform X on Saturday, President Díaz-Canel wrote: "This generous record of the people of Vietnam for Cuba is not just an act of love for which we are deeply grateful. It is a donation that honors us, coming from a hardworking and heroic people who were able to rise up after several wars and today dazzle the world with their sustained progress."

The Cuban leader also reposted a message from Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, who said: "We are deeply moved by the extraordinary participation of the Vietnamese people in the newly launched campaign to support Cuba promoted by the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS)."

According to the VRCS, the campaign '65 Years of Vietnam–Cuba Solidarity' had raised more than VND271.9 billion ($10.34 million) as of 6:00 pm on Saturday, over four times the minimum target of VND65 billion ($2.47 million) set for the entire program.

Nguyen Hai Anh, vice-president and general secretary of the VRCS, said he was deeply touched and grateful for the enthusiastic participation of millions of Vietnamese, which reflects a special affection for the Cuban people and nation.

He noted that within the first 30 hours of the launch on August 13, the campaign already met its minimum target of VND65 billion.

Just 48 hours later, contributions exceeded 200 percent of the goal, topping VND130 billion ($4.94 million).

"This demonstrates a profound bond and a special respect that every Vietnamese wishes to dedicate to the Cuban people and their country. It also affirms that Cuba holds a very special place in the hearts of the Vietnamese people," Anh said.

Donations can be made through various channels, including fundraising among staff, union members, students, and workers in government agencies, schools, and communities; bank transfers to the VRCS; public donation boxes; and mobile apps like 'Thien nguyen' and Viettel Money.

All contributions and donor lists are published transparently.

Cuba was the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam on December 2, 1960.

Over the past 65 years, the two nations have stood side by side in the struggle for national independence and freedom, as well as in building and defending socialism in their respective countries.

A joint statement issued in September 2024 designated 2025 as the 'Vietnam–Cuba Friendship Year,' reaffirming their commitment to elevating the special relationship to new heights, making it more comprehensive, substantive, effective, and sustainable.

The statement also underscored Vietnam's solidarity and steadfast support for Cuba in overcoming current difficulties and challenges.
