Instead of simply enjoying the view from cyclos, visitors, especially international tourists, are now provided with personal devices and headphones for the duration of the journey.
Using GPS technology, the devices automatically activate audio guides when passing notable attractions.
As the cyclo moves, the device provides real-time stories and information about the history, culture, and significance of each site the tourists are passing.
An added feature allows passengers to interact with an integrated AI chatbot within the app, enabling them to ask questions and learn more about the places they are visiting.

The system supports up to 15 languages, including Vietnamese, English, Chinese, South Korean, and Japanese, among others.
A South Korean visitor who took a route along the Han River that passes landmarks like Dragon Bridge and APEC Park expressed delight at the eco-friendly transport and the engaging audio guide experience.
The tourist described it as a highly enjoyable and unique way to explore the city.
Cyclos have long been symbolic of Vietnam’s urban streetscapes.
In Da Nang and Hoi An, they are now primarily used to carry tourists through central attractions rather than goods.
According to the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center, the idea to integrate technology into cyclo tours began on August 15 and quickly received positive feedback from visitors.
After evaluation and planning, 83 drivers from the Da Nang tourism cyclo team were selected and underwent training sessions on using the devices to serve tourists effectively.
All 83 cyclos in the project were redesigned for a consistent look, featuring matching colors and styles for easy identification.
The frames are made of stainless steel, and the passenger seats come with cushions and canopies for comfort.
Drivers were also given health checks and trained in traffic laws, basic foreign language skills, and local tourism knowledge.

Since the rollout on August 15, the smart cyclos have garnered significant attention.
The Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center has stationed these cyclos at key tourist spots such as APEC Park, Dragon Bridge, Dragon Bridge, and Han Market.
A representative of the technology provider for the 83 cyclos shared that bookings for these rides have noticeably increased since their introduction.
The audio guide service will be free until the end of September.
After that, passengers will pay the regular fare along with an additional fee of approximately VND50,000 (US$1.9) per cyclo for the guided tour experience, the representative said.
