The Internal Political Security Division under the Da Nang Police on Sunday fined D.D.H., 64, of Hoa Cuong Ward, VND7.5 million (US$288) for providing and sharing fabricated and defamatory information online.

On February 3, the division of Da Nang Police discovered that H. had posted on his personal Facebook account, which has around 14,000 followers, an AI-edited image of the festival’s entrance gate, depicting a horse wearing a skirt and women’s shoes, which authorities said was inappropriate, misleading, and likely to spark negative public reaction.

The authorities said that after the post was published, many expressed outrage and criticized the act of sharing doctored and distorted images, saying it affected the cultural and artistic image of a public space.

The division later coordinated with local ward police to verify the case and summoned H. for questioning.

Presented with evidence gathered by police officers, H. admitted to all violations.
