Da Nang proposes luxury tourism projects, including MotoGP racetracks, casinos, to attract high-end tourists

Da Nang's Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has proposed a series of luxury tourism projects to attract high-end tourists, including MotoGP racetracks, casinos, marinas, golf courses, duty-free shopping centers, upscale resorts, and large-scale entertainment complexes.

The proposals were put forward as part of a package of measures aimed at accelerating tourism development following the city's merger with the former Quang Nam Province in July last year.

According to the department, although visitor numbers and tourism revenue continued to post strong growth in the first half of 2026, the city still lacks high-end tourism products to attract affluent and ultra-luxury travelers.

To diversify its tourism offerings, the department proposed expanding products based on natural resources, cultural heritage, and local traditions while further developing MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism, wedding tourism, medical tourism, ecotourism, culinary tourism, and cultural industries.

It also called on the city to introduce investment incentives for premium tourism products targeting high-spending visitors, including beachfront luxury resorts, yacht tourism, marine sports and recreation, golf courses, MotoGP racetracks, esports facilities, casinos, duty-free shopping centers, Michelin-starred restaurants, nightlife entertainment complexes, and large-scale concerts and artistic performances.

Among the key projects proposed are the Ngu Hanh Son Cultural and Historical Park, an international fireworks complex, an inland waterway tourism complex, the Tien Sa Marina, and the South Hoi An ESG urban area focused on entertainment, sports, creativity, and green technology.

The proposed investment list also includes luxury resorts, large-scale entertainment complexes, golf courses, a grand theater, a convention and exhibition center, theme parks, and duty-free shopping centers.

The department noted that several popular tourist areas are facing localized infrastructure overload, affecting environmental sanitation, public security, and traffic management.

These include the Dragon Bridge area during its weekend fire and water performances and Hoi An Ancient Town.

It also said that tourism service quality and the tourism workforce remain uneven across the city.

Several wards continue to face staffing shortages, with officials handling multiple responsibilities, limiting the effectiveness of tourism management and development.

Accommodation establishments in Da Nang served approximately 9.77 million visitors in the first six months, up more than 22 percent year on year, according to the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

Revenue from accommodation, food services, and travel is estimated at more than VND36.2 trillion (US$1.38 billion), an increase of over 19 percent.

Da Nang currently operates 27 air routes and handles an average of around 142 flights per day, up 12 flights compared with the same period in 2025.

During the summer peak in July and August, airlines are expected to increase frequencies on routes connecting Da Nang with Incheon and Cheongju in South Korea, as well as Osaka and Narita in Japan.
