Da Nang City in central Vietnam is organizing a contest for the architectural plan of its central square, which will be built next to the Han River at a cost of more than VND1 trillion (US$39.5 million).

The Da Nang Consultant Technical Construction Center, the organizer of the contest, has exhibited 12 sketching designs to get votes and launched an online voting system.

The square will be developed at a prime site in Thach Thang Ward, Hai Chau District, Da Nang.

The city has taken back a 2,227-square-meter prime land lot at 40 Bach Dang Street to make room for the square.

The square was meticulously planned to span across 16.2 hectares of land, divided into three distinct areas.

Area A will cover 10.69 hectares and be bounded by Nguyen Chi Thanh, Ly Tu Trong, and Quang Trung Streets as well as the west side of the Han River.

Area B is meant to encompass 2.37 hectares and will be strategically located within the cruise ship dock vicinity at the Han River Port.

Area C will cover 3.16 hectares and be surrounded by Tran Phu and Quang Trung Streets, the west side of the Han River as well as the Han River Bridge.

According to the Da Nang Consultant Technical Construction Center, the central square will be a large community space and a venue for cultural festivals, political events, and other programs serving local residents and tourists.
