Da Nang tops Vietnam destinations for int’l travelers during National Day holiday

The two cities were followed by Hanoi, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc, while destinations in China are the top choice for Vietnamese travelers planning to travel abroad.

The National Day break this year lasts five consecutive days, from Saturday, August 29 through Wednesday, September 2.

Vietnam continues to attract international travelers during the holiday, with diverse source markets and demand spread across destinations nationwide.

South Korea remains the largest source market based on flight bookings on the platform.

Malaysia, meanwhile, has emerged as a particularly fast-growing market, while bookings from Japan, Australia and the UK have also increased steadily.

International travelers are also showing a clear preference for higher-end accommodation.

Hotels rated four stars or above account for more than 70 percent of international visitors’ hotel bookings during the holiday.

The trend reflects international travelers’ growing preference for quality accommodation and services during their trips to Vietnam.

One notable change this year is how travelers are viewing the holiday. Rather than simply marking the end of summer, the break is being viewed as the start of the autumn travel season, with travelers placing greater value on experiences, relaxation and more meaningful trips, according to travel company Vietluxtour.

China tops Vietnamese travelers’ overseas choices

Vietnamese travelers, meanwhile, are showing strong interest in overseas travel.

Bookings for international flights and overseas hotel stays by Vietnamese travelers have risen 44 and 123 percent, respectively, from the same period last year.

Hanoi is the most popular departure point for international flights, accounting for 55 percent of all international departures booked through the platform, followed by Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hai Phong and Nha Trang.

Mainland China has emerged as the most popular overseas destination among Vietnamese travelers, accounting for nearly 40 percent of international flight bookings and 63 percent of overseas hotel bookings on Trip.com.

Both flight and hotel bookings to China have increased significantly from last year.

South Korea, Japan, Thailand and Taiwan are the next most popular short-haul destinations.

Vietnamese visitors traveling to China tend to stay longer and book more rooms per trip. 

Beijing is a leading destination in terms of flight bookings, while hotel demand is spread across cities including Shanghai, Hangzhou, Tongxiang, Beijing and Guangzhou.

Travelers are also booking attraction tickets and entertainment activities in advance.

International theme parks are among the popular choices, including Shanghai Disney Resort in China, the Sky Capsule at Haeundae Blueline Park in South Korea and Universal Studios Singapore.

A Saigontourist representative said China has considerable room for further growth thanks to its diverse tourism products and relatively competitive prices, particularly as more direct air routes and tour products make travel between the two countries more convenient.

The variety of tourism products makes China suitable for different groups of Vietnamese travelers, from young people seeking exploration and photo opportunities to families combining sightseeing with entertainment and travelers interested in nature, culture and local experiences.

Travel booking patterns among Vietnamese travelers are also changing. Trip.com data shows that travelers are planning their National Day trips well in advance, booking flights an average of 41 days before departure and hotels 32 days ahead.

Although these booking windows are shorter than last year’s figures of 45 days for flights and 37 days for hotels, the trend of early planning and booking remains evident.

Vietnamese travelers are also making the most of the holiday by extending their trips. The average hotel stay has reached 2.13 nights, up from 1.71 nights during normal periods and 2.06 nights during last year’s National Day holiday.

The average time between the outbound and return flights reached 13.6 days, up from 11.2 days in 2025, indicating that travelers are increasingly combining the holiday with longer trips.
