Da Nang treats locals, visitors to food tour, Hoi An-Japan cultural experience

The Da Nang Food Tour Festival 2026 runs until Sunday at East Sea Park, Tam Thanh Sea Square, and several sites in the coastal central city.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Hoi An-Japan cultural exchange event on Friday evening, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki said the ancient town has long served as an international hub of cultural exchange.

He noted that maintaining the Hoi An-Japan cultural exchange reflects the town’s tradition of hospitality and its enduring friendship with international partners.

Since 1990, Japan has played a continuous role in preserving Hoi An’s historic old quarter, including the restoration of the iconic Cau Pagoda, widely regarded as a symbol of friendship between Vietnam and Japan.

Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, vice-chairwoman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, said the cultural exchange has evolved beyond a traditional event into a bridge linking Japan and Hoi An through shared cultural values and future cooperation.

Following the opening ceremony, tens of thousands of residents and tourists filled the ancient streets to enjoy performances and cultural programs carefully prepared by Da Nang’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Meanwhile, thousands also gathered on Tam Thanh Beach for the Da Nang Food Tour Festival the same day.

Visitors sampled fresh seafood and dishes of the central region, while interacting with chefs and artisans.

Traditional craft activities, including fishing net weaving, handmade mesh bag crafting, bamboo root sculpture, broom making and hand-painted tote decorating, added to the festive atmosphere.

During the festival, cooking showcases take place daily from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm on Tam Thanh Beach.

Many Quang Nam-style delicacies are being prepared live for fest-goers, while over 50 booths are introducing OCOP-certified and regional products to visitors.

A large-scale traditional folk cake festival was scheduled to take place in Hoi An Dong Ward on Saturday.
