The warning comes amid a regional increase in COVID-19 infections.

According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Health, Thailand recorded over 53,600 COVID-19 cases and 16 deaths between January 1 and May 10 this year, mostly linked to the XBB.1.16 Omicron subvariant.

In Vietnam, over 150 cases have been reported across various provinces and cities, with no deaths or large-scale outbreaks.

However, officials have recorded a slight uptick in infections over the past three weeks.

The city’s health department said on Monday that COVID-19 is now classified as an endemic disease in Vietnam.

It warned that more cases could emerge in the coming weeks, especially in popular tourist destinations like Da Nang during the peak travel season.

As part of its 2025 infectious disease control plan, the health department called on local agencies to step up public communication and encourage adherence to national health guidelines.

The recommendations include wearing face masks in public places, on public transport, and in healthcare facilities; washing hands frequently with soap, clean water, or sanitizer; avoiding large gatherings unless necessary; maintaining regular physical activity and a balanced diet; monitoring personal health and seeking medical attention if symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath appear.

Travelers returning from countries, regions with high COVID-19 case counts should self-monitor their health closely.

People are also encouraged to stay informed through official updates from the Ministry of Health, the Da Nang Department of Health, and relevant agencies.
