According to the Da Nang People’s Committee, tourism remained the brightest spot in the city’s economy during the January-May period as both domestic and international visitor numbers increased sharply, boosting growth in trade, services, and transportation.
In May alone, accommodation establishments in the central coastal city served about 1.78 million guests, marking a 29-percent year-on-year increase.
International arrivals reached 872,000, up more than 31 percent, while domestic visitors totaled 906,000, expanding almost 27 percent.
Tourism officials attributed the strong growth to a series of cultural events, festivals, sporting competitions, and tourism promotion programs organized continuously since the beginning of the year.
These activities helped Da Nang maintain its appeal among both domestic and foreign travelers.

The tourism boom also generated positive spillover effects across other sectors of the local economy.
Trade, services, and transportation continued to record solid growth as the supply of goods remained stable, with no shortages or unusual price fluctuations reported.
As of May 20, total state budget revenue in Da Nang reached VND34.315 trillion (US$1.3 billion), fulfilling 51.69 percent of the city’s 2026 revenue target.
Industrial production also remained a key driver of economic growth.
During May, local authorities granted new business registration certificates to 599 enterprises, branches, and representative offices with a combined registered capital of more than VND5.708 trillion ($216.8 million).
Since the beginning of the year, 3,165 new businesses have been established in the city, improving more than 40 percent compared with the same period last year.
Among them, 1,426 companies resumed operations after periods of inactivity.
Alongside investment promotion efforts, Da Nang continued accelerating public investment and infrastructure development projects.
By the end of May, the city had disbursed more than VND3.095 trillion ($117 million) in public investment capital, achieving 19.22 percent of its annual target.
The city is also implementing 24 social housing projects that will provide more than 21,200 apartments.
In 2026, Da Nang aims to break ground on between seven and nine additional projects while offering approximately 7,000 apartments for sale.

To sustain economic momentum, Nguyen Manh Hung, chairman of the municipal administration, urged departments and local authorities to remove bottlenecks related to administrative procedures, land management, planning, and investment.
He also called for a comprehensive review of major projects to promptly address issues involving planning, investment policies, and implementation mechanisms.
Authorities were asked to accelerate site clearance and resettlement work, while reallocating capital from slow-disbursing projects to those capable of progressing more effectively.
In addition, city agencies were told to proactively work with strategic investors to resolve obstacles and speed up project implementation.
Officials were also instructed to prepare disaster response plans ahead of the upcoming storm and rainy season.
