Vietnam celebrates its National Day on September 2, with this year’s public holiday stretching from August 30 to September 2.

“This year marks a special milestone as the nation celebrates the 80th National Day. We have come up with creative, trendy pieces to both honor the occasion and refresh our designs,” one Thanh Ha craftsman told tourists on Sunday morning.

On the opening day of the two-day festival, throngs of tourists flocked to the 500-year-old village, which is located around 2km away from Hoi An Ancient Town, to experience its craft and capture picture-perfect moments.

They were especially drawn to National Day-themed pottery, such as vases adorned with Vietnamese flags, ceramics shaped like the iconic Hanoi flag tower, and vases embossed with the map of Vietnam.

According to Bui Van Dung, chairman of Hoi An Tay Ward’s People’s Committee, the Thanh Ha pottery community is thriving thanks to the combination of craft-making and tourism.

The village attracts 300,000 to 400,000 visitors annually, and strong revenues have enabled greater investment in preserving and promoting the craft.

Compared with other pottery villages nationwide, Thanh Ha is smaller in scale and produces fewer goods for the market, yet it has become highly popular with tourists by knowing how to tell stories through its craft.

It is also recognized as Da Nang’s most famous craft village.
