The clampdown is part of a broader campaign targeting traffic safety infractions, including speeding, drunk driving, and drug use while operating vehicles.
A traffic police officer said on Wednesday that the intensive enforcement campaign resulted in more than 6,000 traffic violations being recorded from Saturday last week to Tuesday.
Among them were over 1,800 cases involving alcohol-related offenses and eight cases of drug-impaired driving.
As part of the efforts to modernize enforcement methods, police officers utilized surveillance footage to identify and issue fines remotely, with nearly 1,900 traffic violators incurring camera-based fines.
These included some 900 cases of speeding, nearly 400 instances of riding on sidewalks, and over 520 cases of illegal stopping or parking.
Besides, police have focused on promoting legal education on traffic safety, especially regarding the dangers of drunk and drug-impaired driving.
They also frequently share updates on traffic accident trends and highlight incidents caused by serious violations.
The campaign not only targets violations, but also seeks to foster positive public perception.
Officers have been commended for their dedication and efforts in maintaining order.
The city’s traffic police are enhancing traffic safety and order in celebration of the success of the first Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2025-30 term.
Going forward, the traffic police plan to maintain high levels of enforcement, increase patrols, and implement focused campaigns to reduce congestion, prevent accidents, and improve the overall security and quality of life for residents.
