Locals say the beach gets its name from its unusual landscape.
In the past, travelers had to 'crawl' (or let in Vietnamese) over high, soft sand dunes to reach the coast, sinking deeply with each step.
Though roads have since been built, the name has stuck, adding a bit of legend to the beach's charm.
Doc Let draws visitors not just for its calm waters, but for the rhythm of daily life in its seaside fishing villages.
In the early mornings, boats return with fresh catches of fish, shrimp, and crab, which are sold right on the sand.
Many travelers enjoy buying seafood directly from local fishermen and having it cooked simply, preserving the taste of the sea.

Over the past few years, Doc Let has begun appearing on domestic travel itineraries, especially for families and younger travelers seeking a peaceful alternative to busier destinations.
A few resorts have opened, but the area has largely avoided large-scale development, helping preserve its tranquil environment.
Community-based tourism is also on the rise. Residents are building eco-friendly homestays, offering guests a chance to experience rustic village life.
Nguyen Thi Thanh Hieu, a local homestay owner, said most of her guests are small families or young couples looking to escape the crowds.

"What makes Doc Let special is how quiet and untouched it still feels," Hieu said.
"Visitors can stroll the beach, eat local food, and interact with fishermen — all without the stress of a packed tourist spot."
Duong Thanh Huyen, a visitor from Hanoi, agreed.
"It's not crowded, the seafood is fresh and affordable," Huyen remarked.
"If you're not into the hustle of Nha Trang or Bai Dai, this place is perfect."

According to Cung Quynh Anh, deputy director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the province is working to boost infrastructure and attract investment in the Doc Let area.
Many locals have already built sustainable homestays that align with current tourism trends.
He added that upcoming efforts will focus on developing new tourism offerings and improving local workforce capacity to support Doc Let's growth.
