Domestic airfares fall on several Vietnam routes in late July

The lower fares are available on flights to Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Tuy Hoa, Da Nang and Buon Ma Thuot, mainly on evening and late-night services, according to a survey by Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper covering travel through the end of July.

For instance, Vietnam Airlines is offering one-way tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang for VND800,000-955,000 ($30.5-$36.4), although only one or two flights a day are typically available at those prices.

Vietjet fares on the same route range from VND657,000 to VND800,000 ($25-$30.5).

Airfares to Phu Quoc have also eased.

From July 20 to 26, Vietnam Airlines has been offering one to three daily flights from Ho Chi Minh City for less than VND1 million per ticket, including flights VN1829, VN1833 and VN1835.

Vietjet, Sun PhuQuoc Airways and Vietravel Airlines are also selling one-way tickets on the route for VND600,000-900,000 ($22.8-$34.2).

Some booking platforms advertise base fares of only tens of thousands of dong. After taxes and fees are added, however, passengers pay about VND700,000 ($26.6) to nearly VND1 million, excluding checked baggage, seat selection and meals.

One-way fares from Ho Chi Minh City to Tuy Hoa have fallen to about VND740,000 ($28.15) at certain times, while Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet are offering tickets to Buon Ma Thuot for just over VND900,000, including taxes and fees.

Even the busy Ho Chi Minh City-Da Nang route has several flights priced at around VND840,000 ($31.9), although passengers have to accept late departures, including a Vietjet flight leaving at 9:30 pm.

Lower fares are not limited to routes from Ho Chi Minh City.

Tickets from Hanoi to Da Nang are also available for less than VND1 million for passengers who book early and remain flexible about their travel dates.

However, cheaper tickets are not available across all departure times.

Prices for morning and evening flights on the same route and travel date can differ by several hundred thousand dong.

Weekend flights, departures during convenient hours and bookings made close to the travel date remain more expensive.

Most tickets priced below VND1 million are available on weekdays or on evening and late-night services.

The cheapest fare category may also have only a small number of seats.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) attributed the decline in domestic airfares during the 2026 peak summer season to increased capacity, additional flights and lower operating costs.

Airlines have expanded their fleets, while the entry of Sun PhuQuoc Airways has added competition and capacity to the market.

The number of seats available across Vietnam’s domestic network has risen by more than 10 percent from a year earlier, according to the authority.

Carriers have also increased flights on major routes and expanded services during late-night and early-morning hours.

Tickets during those periods are generally 30 percent to 50 percent cheaper than fares for more convenient departure times.

Airlines have introduced promotions for early bookings, group travel and weekday flights, with discounts of up to 20 percent.

The decline in fares has also coincided with lower jet fuel prices, one of the airline industry’s largest expenses.

Data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) showed the average global jet fuel price fell 11.4 percent from the previous week to $141.64 per barrel, easing cost pressure on airlines and giving them more room to offer tickets in lower fare categories.
