An officer from the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security said on Sunday night that his team had handled a serious case involving a sleeper bus operating illegally.
At around 2:10 pm the same day, officers were conducting inspections of commercial transport vehicles on Nha Trang - Cam Lam Expressway when they stopped a sleeper bus for a routine check.
The inspection revealed two serious violations.
The driver, identified as P.V.P., 41, from Quang Ngai Province, was found to be operating the vehicle without a driving license.
He was fined VND19 million ($723) for this offense.
In addition, he was booked and fined VND5 million ($190) for driving a vehicle that did not have a valid inspection certificate.
Traffic police also issued penalties against the vehicle owner.
The owner was fined VND58 million ($2,206) for handing over the vehicle to a person who did not meet the legal requirements to drive.
Another fine of VND22 million ($841) was imposed for putting a vehicle without a valid inspection certificate into service, along with a two-month suspension of the vehicle’s transport badge.
In total, fines imposed on the driver and the vehicle owner amounted to VND104 million.
The sleeper bus was temporarily impounded for seven days, and its transport badge was revoked for two months.
