The driver, identified as Le Minh Giap, a 41-year-old resident of Yen Nghia Ward, was behind the wheel of a white car when it collided with multiple vehicles, including four motorcycles and three cars.

Giap’s blood alcohol concentration was measured at 0.861 mg/L of breath, 2.2 times higher than the maximum threshold of 0.4mg/L as defined by Decree 168/2024.

The pile-up happened at around 8:00 pm when Giap was driving his car from Le Trong Tan Street toward the Do Nghia Urban Area.

Near the CT7 building, his car first struck a motorcycle ridden by D.Q.V., 41.

The crash caused V. to die at the scene.

The vehicle then plowed into three more motorcycles, including one driven by L.T.H.G., 32, who was carrying her two young children. All three suffered serious injuries.

Giap’s car continued crashing into two cars parked along the roadside.

In total, eight vehicles were damaged.

Among the victims of the incident, two young children were rushed to the Hanoi Children’s Hospital for emergency treatment.

A representative of the hospital said that medical staff immediately mobilized all available resources overnight to provide emergency care for the two child patients.

One of the children was reported to be in serious condition and was put on ventilation upon arrival at the hospital.

Hoang, 31, a local resident, recalled that at the time of the crash, he was standing by the street buying fruit.

The sound was deafening. When the car finally stopped, there were injured people everywhere, he recounted.

“One victim was lying motionless near the front of the white car," he said.

"We rushed over, but he was already gone.”

Hoang and other bystanders immediately called police officers.

Witnesses also reported that the white car had hit a roadside fruit stand before slamming into a series of other vehicles, ultimately coming to a stop only after colliding with a Honda car, which was then pushed into the back of a parked pickup truck.
