A dump truck had a brake failure and rolled backward while climbing a slope, hitting a woman on a motorbike and killing her on the spot in Bao Lam District, located in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, on Friday afternoon.
The accident happened at around 2:30 pm on Friday when the dump truck carrying sand was traveling on provincial highway No. 725.
The vehicle was climbing a slope of the Dan Mach Bridge in Bao Lam District’s Loc Ngai Commune when its brake failed, causing the truck to roll backward.
After hitting a car traveling in the same direction, the truck went on to hit a motorbike carrying two people.
The male motorbike driver – 20-year-old Pham Tan Nghia from Loc Ngai – managed to jump out of harm’s way while the passenger – Nghia’s 43-year-old mother Vo Thu Cuc – was hit by the truck.
Cuc was run over and dragged for 20 meters on the asphalt. She died on the spot.
The traffic accident caused a nearly three-hour congestion on the road.
Police officers are investigating the case.
