An annual European literature fest is poised to be organized in Ho Chi Minh City for the first time from this through next week, organizers said.
The European Literature Days are slated for their debut in the southern city from Sunday (May 8) to Thursday (May 12), the British Council said on its website.
The Ho Chi Minh City event will take place at IDECAF, the Library of General Sciences, and Nguyen Van Binh Book Street in District 1, according to the website of Germany’s Goethe- Institut.
Held by European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC), the event will showcase contributions from eight European countries, plenty of activities for book lovers, and discounts on Nguyen Van Binh Book Street, the British Council website said.
Books representing Denmark, Germany, France, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, Spain, and Great Britain will be among those featured at the event.
On Sunday, an art workshop hosted by EUNIC, French Institute in Vietnam, and Nha Nam Co., a Vietnamese book publisher, will be held on the book street for children to draw Little Nicholas, a character from the renowned series of French children’s books Le petit Nicolas (Little Nicholas) with their own storyline.
Alongside workshops, exhibitions, and films, the event will boast book presentations on The Taste of Apple Seeds and Sungs Laden, amongst others, the organizing board said, adding that British graphic novelist Ilya will be holding a discussion with book lovers about “Shakespeare's contemporary influence.”
The literature event in Hanoi, which is in its sixth year, will be held at the Goethe Institut, Ba Dinh District, L’Espace and Casa Italia in Hoan Kiem District from Wednesday to Tuesday, Goethe Institut said on its website.
