Experts to discuss English learning strategies for students in age of AI in Ho Chi Minh City

The discussion, organized by Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper, in collaboration with DOL English – IELTS Dinh Luc, is aimed at answering a series of questions raised by parents and teachers about English learning methods in the AI era.

As AI continues to transform the way people learn, work, and access information, it is also reshaping English language education.

AI-powered tools can now assist students with pronunciation practice, conversational skills, writing feedback, and personalized learning, creating new opportunities for young learners.

In reality, many students devote a significant amount of time to learning English, yet the results often do not meet their expectations, leaving them discouraged.

Vietnam’s long-term goal of gradually establishing English as a second language in schools, as outlined in Conclusion No. 91 of the Politburo, underscores the importance of building strong English foundations from the elementary and secondary levels.

Therefore, such questions as ‘How can children use AI responsibly?', 'Can AI replace traditional language learning or should it serve only as a supplementary tool?’ or ‘What learning approaches will enable students to benefit from technology while still developing critical thinking, language proficiency, and independent learning skills?’ need to be addressed.

The discussion, titled ‘English Learning Methods for Elementary and Middle School Students in the AI Era,’ is meant to provide parents, teachers, and students with practical insights into the role of AI in education and effective strategies for maximizing English learning outcomes in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The discussion, which will take place at the headquarters of Tuoi Tre at 2:00 pm, will bring together four guests representing education, language instruction, and student achievement.

They are Tran Thi Hong Thuy, Master of English language teaching and principal of Tran Dai Nghia Middle and High School in Ho Chi Minh City, and Ha Dang Nhu Quynh, academic director at DOL English.

Quynh holds an overall IELTS score of 9.0, graduated as the salutatorian in English language education from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, and is a former literature student at the High School for the Gifted under Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

The two other speakers are Tran Thien Minh, IELTS and SAT instructor at DOL English, and Huynh Nguyen Xuan Phuc, a former student of Le Van Tam Middle School, who earned an IELTS score of 7.5 while in Grade 8.

Phuc has completed his enrollment in the English-specialized program at the High School for the Gifted under Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

She was also accepted into the English-specialized program at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted.
