Fertilizer producer fined $12,250 for illegal wastewater discharge in southern Vietnam

The administration in Long An Province, southern Vietnam fined a fertilizer company VND312 million (US$12,250) for disposing of wastewater into the environment.

The government in Thanh Hoa District, Long An Province said on Tuesday that the fine was imposed on An Hung Nong Co. Ltd., the investor of an organic fertilizer factory in the district.

The company was forced to recollect the wastewater flowing into a local household’s lake for treatment and report the result of its corrective measures to the Thanh Hoa District administration.

Earlier, a long section of the La Khoa Canal in Thanh Hoa District was found polluted.

The polluted water flowed to other canals in neighboring Tan Phuoc District, Tien Giang Province.

The natural resources and environment division in Thanh Hoa launched an investigation and detected that wastewater from An Hung Nong  Co. Ltd.’s factory ran into the La Khoa Canal.

The company reasoned that the wastewater spread to the canal as its wastewater pipes were broken.
