Hundreds of people in the central city of Hue attended the opening ceremony of a five-day festival that honors Vietnamese traditional crafts in the rain on Friday night.

The 2017 Hue Festival of Traditional Crafts, held by the city’s iconic Huong River, treated visitors to various performances during the opening ceremony, and received warm supports despite the cold rain.

Focusing on highlighting the elite of Vietnamese traditional crafts, the festival gathers more than 300 artisans from 40 craft villages all over Vietnam.

It also sees the attendance of 34 artisans from Japan, South Korea, and China.

According the organizers, the artisans will showcase craft products divided into 13 groups including embroidery, jewelry, fine arts, bronze, ceramics, conical hat, paper flowers, bamboo handicrafts, and others.

Booths displaying handicrafts are also installed on Nguyen Dinh Chieu pedestrian street along the romantic Huong River.

Artisans at some booths also intrigued tourists by showing them how to make their craft products.

Within the framework of the festival, a wide range of activities will also be organized, including an ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress), and a show featuring textile apparel with the theme of Asian identity integration.

A ceremony to honor artisans will wrap up the festival on May 2.
