Firebreak on Vung Tau's Big Mountain becomes popular trekking trail

The firebreak and a connecting route between Vi Ba Street and Alley 444 Tran Phu Street were developed by the ward's administration in late May and opened two months later.

Within just three weeks, the route quickly attracted residents and visitors eager to explore, experience and take photos along the trail.

The more than 10-kilometer route begins at an intersection with Vi Ba Street and gradually climbs to the summit of Big Mountain, also known as Tuong Ky Mountain.

The winding trail cuts through forest, passes through the Ho May tourist area and leads to several historical sites, including a torpedo tunnel and an old artillery position.

From an elevation of more than 200 meters, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of central Vung Tau, including Front Beach and Dau Beach, as well as the Dinh River estuary's wetlands.

The view extends farther toward Long Son and Can Gio and the local oil and gas port area.

Visitors can also stop at attractions such as Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, Bo De Pagoda and Chon Khong Zen Monastery to sightsee and worship, watch ships passing offshore, and sample distinctive local dishes.

Thanh Tam, a resident of Vung Tau Ward, said the route had previously been divided into separate sections, limiting sightseeing and trekking activities.

After the project was completed, however, the route became a favorite trekking and experiential destination, particularly among young people.

"The route is now not only twice as long but also offers more scenic spots and historical sites to explore. Reaching the summit of Big Mountain and taking in a panoramic view of Vung Tau from above is truly amazing," Tam said.

According to the Vung Tau Ward administration, the firebreak and the connecting route between Vi Ba Street and Alley 444 Tran Phu Street serve an important purpose.

The route allows authorities to move more quickly in the event of a forest fire while also creating additional space for residents and tourists to walk, trek and enjoy the scenery and connecting tourist attractions and historical sites on Big Mountain.

The project is expected to help develop ecotourism and experiential tourism products, attract more visitors and make better use of the natural landscape of Big Mountain and Vung Tau Ward.
