Firefighters work throughout night to battle wildfire in Vietnam’s Ha Tinh Province

Authorities tried their best to keep the fire from spreading to nearby forests and houses

Different forces in the north-central Vietnamese province of Ha Tinh on Monday had to stay up all night trying to contain a wildfire that erupted in the morning.

Firefighters exerted their best efforts to prevent the flames at Nam Mountain in Huong Son District from spreading to nearby forests and residential areas.

Although the temperatures dropped at night, it was still very windy, making it difficult for authorities to control the fire.

According to Kieu Dinh Linh, deputy head of Huong Son’s forest protection unit, the wildfire started at 11:00 am on Monday.

It was contained on the evening of the same day, but it flared up again at night, Linh stated.

“It was challenging to transport water to the site as the fire is located on top of the mountain,” the official elaborated.

“We had to use firefighting blowers and certain objects to keep the blaze from spreading.”

As firefighters combated the flames, other units were in charge of helping local residents evacuate dangerous zones, he added.

Nguyen Thi Huong, who lives at the foot of the mountain, said her family were unable to sleep as they were afraid the fire could reach their home.

“We have already moved our valuable belongings to a relative’s house,” Huong said.

“It has been years since I last saw such a serious wildfire.”

As of 1:30 am on Tuesday, the forest fire had yet to be put under control.
