The Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Friday issued a press release outlining activities for residents and visitors to mark the 81st anniversary of Vietnam's Independence Day on September 2.
Five fireworks sites set for September 2 celebrations
Hanoi will organize a range of cultural programs, exhibitions, activities at heritage sites, mobile film screenings and other events for residents and visitors.
The highlight will be a 15-minute fireworks display at five sites on the evening of September 2.
The five launch sites are in front of the Hanoi Moi newspaper headquarters; in front of Hanoi Post Office; Coconut Island in Thong Nhat Park; the F1 race track at My Dinh Sports Complex; and Lac Long Quan Flower Garden in Tay Ho Ward.
The fireworks will be launched from 9 to 9:15 pm on September 2, for a total of 15 minutes.
A feast of arts and culture
In the central area, Hoan Kiem Ward will host a large-scale cultural program produced by the Hanoi Cheo Theatre on September 1 and 2 at the Ba Kieu Temple flower garden (59 Dinh Tien Hoang, Hoan Kiem Ward), in front of the "Determined to Die for the Survival of the Fatherland" monument.
On August 28, Hoa Lac Commune will host a cultural program produced by the Hanoi Culture and Library Center.
On August 31, Dan Phuong, Minh Chau, Bat Trang and Dai Xuyen communes will host cultural programs produced by city-run theaters.
On September 2, cultural programs will also be held at My Dinh Stadium Square in Tu Liem Ward, Thong Nhat Park in Hai Ba Trung Ward and Lac Long Quan Flower Garden in Tay Ho Ward. Phuc Son Commune will also stage a program by the Hanoi Drama Theatre on the same day.
Alongside free programs for residents, Hanoi will also stage several high-quality ticketed productions under the city's cultural brand.
On August 26, the Hanoi Cheo Theatre will present 'The Charm of Hanoi Cheo' at Dai Nam Theatre, 89 Pho Hue Street, Hai Ba Trung Ward.
On August 29, the Thang Long Music and Dance Theatre will present 'Hanoi Stories - A Very Hanoi Day' at 31-33 Luong Van Can Street, Hoan Kiem Ward.
On the same day, the Hanoi Cai Luong Theatre will stage 'The Daughter of Hanoi' at Chuong Vang Theatre, 72 Hang Bac Street, Hoan Kiem Ward.
A host of cultural spaces welcome the public
During August and early September, Hanoi plans to hold about 50 mobile film screenings in outlying communes, along with 20 screenings at Kim Dong Cinema and September 2 Cinema in Son Tay Ward.
From August 28 to September 6, the photo exhibition 'Rang ro non song Viet Nam' (A Glorious Land of Vietnam), will be held at Exhibition House No. 93 Dinh Tien Hoang Street in Hoan Kiem Ward.
The Hanoi Culture and Library Center will also organize a book and newspaper display at Hanoi Library, 47 Ba Trieu Street in Cua Nam Ward.
From August 26 to September 15, two exhibition spaces featuring creative products from traditional craft villages and contemporary craft art will be open at 45 and 61 Trang Tien Street, respectively.
At the Temple of Literature, a range of activities will take place from August 26 to 30, including folk games, hands-on experiences at booths, cultural performances, a reading festival and heritage exploration.
The site will also host 'Bringing Crafts to the Streets', an activity showcasing traditional crafts in public spaces; the night tours 'Tinh hoa dao hoc' (Vietnam's Scholarly Tradition) and 'Su da luu danh' (Legacy of Stone Inscriptions); the exhibitions 'Ngan nam di san' (Millenium Heritage) and 'Lang khoa bang Dong Ngac' (Dong Ngac, a Village of Scholars); the 'Lacquer Dialogue' workshop; and displays of works inspired by heritage.
At the Hoa Lo Prison Relic, visitors can take part in exchanges with historical witnesses, daytime reenactments and the thematic exhibition 'Unwavering Hearts, Iron Will."
The exhibitions 'Steel Pen, Loyal Heart' and 'Realm of Memories' will also remain open.
The Hanoi Museum will host an exhibition on the capital's master plan with a 100-year vision through August 29, along with the discussion 'Fire on the Rail tracks,' the photo display 'Ha Noi Through my Eyes,' and educational activities including making 'to he' (traditional Vietnamese figurines that whistle when blown) from Xuan La and traditional fans from Chang Son.
At the Ngoc Son Temple, Hanoi is preparing facilities and arrangements for incense-offering ceremonies involving central and city leaders and diplomatic delegations, while also welcoming residents and visitors.
With activities spanning central areas as well as communes and wards, Hanoi is expected to create more cultural, recreational and experiential spaces for residents and visitors during the September 2 National Day holiday.
