Foreign missions extend condolences to Vietnam after storm Bualoi

Cuba, Russia, the United States, Japan, Ukraine and several other countries have sent condolences and messages of solidarity to Vietnam following the devastation caused by storm Bualoi.

The storm, the 10th to hit the East Vietnam Sea this year, left at least 29 people dead, 22 missing,139 injured and caused economic losses estimated at more than VND8 trillion (US$303 million) as of Wednesday morning.

Cuban First Secretary and President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez expressed his deep condolences on Facebook on Wednesday, stressing confidence that Vietnam would overcome the disaster “with unity, intelligence, and determination.”

The Russian Embassy in Hanoi said Vietnam “is not alone,” writing: “Russia always stands with Vietnam, not only in moments of joy but also in times of hardship. We admire your strength, solidarity, and courage in the face of disaster.”

The U.S. Embassy in Hanoi expressed its heartfelt sympathy to all those affected by the storm, while Japan’s embassy extended condolences to the families of the victims and hoped that missing persons would be found safe.

The embassies of France, Ukraine, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United Nations office in Vietnam also issued statements of support.

On Monday, during a phone call with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz conveyed his concern and solidarity with Vietnam over the storm’s impacts.
