Vietlott held a prize handover ceremony for the winner on Wednesday.

C.S.Y. purchased the winning ticket at a Vietlott store located at 16 Nguyen Quy Duc Street in Binh Trung Ward.

Speaking at the ceremony, he shared that he has been living and working in Vietnam for three years.

“During this time, I’ve regularly played Vietlott games, especially Power 6/55 and Mega 6/45," he said.

“I usually spend from VND50,000-100,000 [$2-4] each time I buy tickets.

"I believe this win comes down to both luck and persistence.

“I plan to use the prize money to invest further in my business in Vietnam."

He donated VND100 million ($3,830) to Tam Tai Viet Fund to support needy people across the country.

With this win, Y. has become one of the few international players to hit the jackpot from Vietlott, reflecting the growing appeal of the self-select lottery system among the foreign community in Vietnam.

Under Vietnam’s personal income tax law, lottery winnings are subject to a personal income tax of 10 percent, meaning the foreign winner has to pay about VND3.2 billion ($122,500) in tax.
