A free program called “Presentations and demonstrations on making Japanese handmade items: designs from Tokyo” will take place in Ho Chi Minh City on May 9.
The program, which is open to everyone, will be held at the Vietnam Designers House, 161A Hai Ba Trung, district 3, at 9:30 am on May 9.
Participants will have the chance to find out about “The new designs in the 1,000-year Japanese designing heritage,” a presentation by Noriko Kawakami, a journalist specializing in designing and vice director of a famous designing gallery in Japan.
Masataka Hosoo, the 12th heir of the Hosoo family, well known for their oldest trademark in nishijin fabric, a traditional textile produced in the Nishijin district in Kyoto, Japan, will also present on “Kyoto’s new traditions, nishijin fabric and metal wire weaving”.
At 2 pm on the same day, artisan Toru Tsuji will demonstrate to participants how to make a ladle to scoop up tofu from metal wires.
The event is jointly held by the Japanese Consular General in HCMC and the Japan Foundation Vietnam.
The event had taken place in Hanoi earlier.
