Free nursing home opens in Vietnam’s Can Tho to care for 300 elderly

The Lang Sen nursing home, built by the Long Xuyen Diocese and managed by the Camillian Order, covers more than 42,600 square meters in Vinh Thanh Commune.

About 30 elderly residents have already moved into the nursing home, where they receive daily care and support.

In the coming period, the facility plans to expand its services to provide full-time, completely free care for approximately 300 elderly individuals who lack family support or are unable to care for themselves, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or gender.

During the thanksgiving mass held the same day, Bishop Giuse Tran Van Toan outlined five aspirations for the facility, including respect for human dignity, preservation of filial piety, transmission of family values, creation of an ecological living space, and respect for religious diversity.

He emphasized that the nursing home should function like a family, where love, service, sacrifice, and forgiveness are passed down to younger generations.

The bishop also highlighted the importance of respecting different faiths, ensuring residents can practice their beliefs and receive religious rites at the end of life.

He added that the inauguration ceremony on Friday drew many attendees, including former State President Truong Tan Sang, Can Tho leaders Truong Canh Tuyen and Ho Thi Cam Dao, and representatives from other faiths.

Local officials praised the project as a meaningful contribution to social welfare and community responsibility.
