The ward’s administration on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MobiFone Ho Chi Minh City under Vietnam’s telecom giant MobiFone, and Nam A Commercial Joint Stock Bank to deploy a free public Wi-Fi system combined with digital communications at Au Lac Park.

Developed with funding and support from the participating organizations, the system provides Internet access for residents and visitors and facilitates access to online public services, digital platforms and official local information.

Phan Ngoc Phat, deputy chairman of the Cho Quan administration, said the Wi-Fi system features a login interface integrated with the city's Public Service Portal, Digital Citizen app, official website and other local information channels.

The ward is also studying the integration of additional digital services for residents in the future, Phat said.

Under the MoU, MobiFone Ho Chi Minh City will survey, design, install and configure the system, provide the Internet connection, and operate and maintain it to ensure stable and secure service.

Nam A Commercial Joint Stock Bank will provide initial funding for the project and coordinate communications, user-experience activities and community services.

Following the signing ceremony, residents were instructed on how to access and use the public Wi-Fi at the park.

Volunteers from the 'Digital Literacy for All' team in Cho Quan Ward also guided residents in installing, registering for and using VNeID, the city's Digital Citizen app and electronic health record system, as well as performing other basic digital tasks, Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Saigon) newspaper reported.

The ward administration said it will work with relevant agencies to monitor the service, assess its effectiveness and address any problems, while studying potential upgrades and additional features.

It also plans to expand the model when conditions permit, according to the administration.
