The free screening of French films is running in 15 provinces until Dec 20 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Vietnam – France diplomatic ties.
From now until December 20th, there will be a traveling screening of four French films within fifteen provinces of Vietnam. There will be two free screening sessions each in such locations as Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hue, Da Nang, Lam Dong and Khanh Hoa; Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have four sessions each. The screenings cover a total of 5,300 km.
The four selected movies, which have been quite successful in France, are “Artist”, “Intouchables”, and comedy-romance films “De vrais mensonges” (Beautiful lies) and “Un plan parfait” (A perfect plan). The film “Un plan parfait”, which isn’t suitable for children, will be screened at a late hour.
Since 1953, mobile film screening has become an indispensable entertainment activity for local people, especially those in remote, mountainous areas, where there are few cinemas.
In recent years, the boom of television and Internet has gradually turned traveling film screenings into a thing of the past, which deprives people living in disadvantaged areas of access to good films on the big screen.
