The Quang Tri administration said Thursday that it had approved the investment policy for the Phuc Loc Tho wind farm project.

Qair International is a French renewable energy group that has been involved in developing solar and wind power projects in Vietnam since 2017.

The company has invested in the 50MW Cat Hiep solar power plant in Gia Lai Province in Vietnam’s Central Highlands and is researching and developing several wind power projects, including Phuc Loc Tho in Quang Tri.

The Phuc Loc Tho wind farm is designed to generate electricity for connection to the national grid, providing a source of clean energy and making effective use of renewable resources.

The project will be developed in a nearshore area within six nautical miles of the coast, covering parts of Bac Gianh Ward, Dong Trach Commune and Hoan Lao Commune.

The project’s survey and study area covers approximately 14,568 hectares, with sea depths ranging from 17 to 22 meters.

The wind farm will have a designed capacity of 200MW and is expected to generate 515.86GWh of electricity annually.

It will comprise 32 wind turbines, each with a capacity of around 6.25MW.

The turbine locations will be an average of at least 1,000 meters from the lowest shoreline.

The project is expected to use approximately 69 hectares of land and water surface, including around 10 hectares of land used for a fixed period, four hectares used temporarily and 55 hectares of water surface.

The Phuc Loc Tho wind farm will have an operating term of 50 years.

Under the proposed schedule, the project will be completed and put into operation within 18 months of the issuance of decisions on land allocation, land lease and allocation of the sea area.

The Quang Tri administration has set a target for the project to enter commercial operation no later than 2029.

Previously, Xuan Cau Holdings JSC was also approved as the investor for the 200MW Cam Lo wind farm, with an investment of VND6.5 trillion ($250 million), in Hieu Giang and Con Tien Communes.

Under the revised Power Development Plan VIII, Quang Tri has 30 wind power projects with a combined capacity of 2,609.5MW included in its revised provincial plan.

To date, the provincial administration has approved investment policies for 14 wind power projects with a combined capacity of 1,093MW.
