GE Vernova Foundation is a philanthropic arm of GE Vernova, a global energy company, providing grants to support community resilience, education, and disaster relief through targeted funding initiatives.

The foundation has announced a US$200,000 grant to Save the Children, an international humanitarian organization working in Vietnam since 1990, to support emergency response and recovery efforts following floods, severe storms, and landslides in central Vietnam and Indonesia’s Sumatra region.

Each area will receive $100,000 to execute local relief activities.

The funds will be used for emergency humanitarian assistance, including providing food, clean water, hygiene supplies, temporary shelter, medical services, as well as support for the resumption of educational activities for children in affected areas.

Those relief programs are expected to reach and provide relief for more than 145,000 people from the two countries.

Efforts to support disaster-hit communities in Southeast Asia are part of the organization’s long-term commitment to the region, the representative of GE Vernova Foundation said.

Between November and December, several localities in central Vietnam suffer from floods and severe landslides in the wake of prolonged and heavy rainfall, forcing thousands of households to evacuate and leaving many areas cut off over damaged transport infrastructure.

Children have been among the hardest hit, facing the risk of displacement, disrupted education, and heightened health and safety concerns.

Kristin Carvell, chair of GE Vernova Foundation, said natural disasters leave lasting impact on households and communities, adding that partnering with Save the Children helps deliver practical support for families in Vietnam and Indonesia during emergency response and recovery efforts.

On the part of implementing partner, a representative from Save the Children said the funding from GE Vernova Foundation enables the organization to accelerate the essential relief efforts, support children’s return to school, and protect the most vulnerable groups.

The programs also aim to strengthen community resilience to further disaster shocks in the future.

Alongside emergency relief, GE Vernova Foundation said it is implementing long-term initiatives in Vietnam, including energy sector workforce development programs with total funding of $750,000.

The initiatives are meant to enhance skills among students and technicians to meet labor demands in the renewable energy sector.
