Giant shark kite steals show at border-area contest in southern Vietnam

The contest, themed 'Colors of the Borderland,' featured 20 teams, mainly from local organizations and schools. 

Kites of various shapes, colors, and sizes filled the sky, creating an impressive and vibrant display.

The entries were judged on their ability to fly high, remain stable and balanced, as well as their design concepts, visual appeal, craftsmanship, assembly, and safety.

The event was introduced as a new tourism attraction for the border commune of Thuong Phuoc, offering visitors a chance to relax while watching unique kites fill the sky and explore tourism sites along the Tien River.

Nguyen Thi Dung, a resident of Thuong Phuoc Commune, said she came to admire the unusual kites and planned to visit the rural market along the Tien River with her family later that afternoon.

"The open space, clear blue sky, and colorful kites made the experience especially enjoyable," Dung said. 

"I hope the commune holds more events like this, giving people a chance to spend time together and relive childhood memories."

After watching the kite displays, visitors could explore attractions along the Tien River in Thuong Phuoc Commune, sample local food, swim and relax at a river sandbar, take photos by a lotus pond, and visit a border marker and Truc Lam Zen Monastery.

The riverside rural market features 40 stalls selling traditional cakes and other specialties from the Mekong Delta. It operates from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm every Saturday.

Nguyen Hoang Nhung, vice-chairman of the Thuong Phuoc Commune People's Committee, said the riverside tourism site provided local residents with space to sell their products and earn additional income.

The authority plans to develop a tour connecting a flood-season native fish farming area with Thuong Phuoc Communal House, Truc Lam Zen Monastery, the riverside market, and the traditional scarf-weaving village in Long Khanh.

"The stalls at the riverside site showcase distinctive products from the border region and are expected to become a key attraction, helping boost tourism and the local border economy," Nhung said.
