22-year-old Karishma Kannan, an Indian girl with Down Syndrome, will sell 31 of her paintings in an exhibit tonight, Nov 29, to raise money for local disabled children.

The exhibit, “The Hues of Love”, which will be held at the 23th Floor of Sheraton Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City from 5-8:30pm Nov 29, will feature 31 paintings by Karishma. Her name means "miracle" in Hindi.

Karishma is a gifted amateur painter despite having Down Syndrome. Her unique paintings made with strong brush strokes have melted many viewers’ hearts.

Earnings from the sale of her paintings will help bring a happy Tet holiday to local physically challenged kids and fund heart operations for kids in central Quang Nam provinces.

In late 2011, Karishma sold 45 paintings in an exhibit in HCMC. Her profit of VND230 million (US$10,800) was donated to help local underprivileged children.

“This is Karishma’s highly challenging road of transformation from mental frailness to toughness. We understand our girl’s limitations, but we never think that she has disability,” Karishma’s mother said at the 2011 exhibit.

Karishma and her family moved to Vietnam for her father's job in 2008. She studied at Gia Dinh School for Children with Special Needs in Binh Thanh district, which a portion of her 2011 painting sale profits went to.
