This special cultural event is held in honor of the official visit to Vietnam by László Kövér, Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary, through Wednesday, at the invitation of Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
The rare photographs vividly capture the urban landscapes, colonial architecture, streets, canals, and the simple daily life of the city’s residents at that time.

Speaking at the opening, Pham Thanh Kien, permanent vice-chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, emphasized the significance of the photos in preserving the passage of time and offering a visual reflection of the city’s development from its colonial past in the 20th century to its current status as a dynamic center of economy, trade, culture, science, and technology.
“The official visit of Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary László Kövér marks an important milestone in the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Hungary, especially as the two countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations,” Kien stated.
The exhibition not only demonstrates Vietnam's respect for historical memory and cultural heritage but also opens up new creative spaces for artists, researchers, and art enthusiasts from both nations to share and find inspiration.
It conveys the message that culture serves as a bridge of friendship and a foundation for deeper understanding, appreciation, and connection between the people of Vietnam and Hungary, Kien added.

Hungarian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Lehocz Gabor noted that the exhibition is not only a tribute to the past but also a step toward the future, strengthening friendship, cooperation, and cultural ties between the two nations.
“In 1909, Bozoky Dezso brought back to Hungary a part of Saigon through images, memories, and stories," he added.
“Over a century later, we return that memory to Vietnam. Because it is your history, your culture, but also our shared heritage."
The 'The Photographs by Bozoky Dezso' exhibition runs until October 31 at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum.
