Grab Vietnam expands services for teen users

Grab Vietnam, a ride-hailing company, has expanded its Grab for Family service to allow Vietnamese teens aged 13 to 17 to book rides independently, while parents or guardians can monitor their trips in real time, providing added peace of mind.

This development builds on the strong adoption of the Grab for Family Account (Family Account) service since its launch in Vietnam last year.

The service allows a primary account holder to invite family members, manage their trips, and pay on their behalf.

According to Grab Vietnam, the number of Family Accounts in the third quarter of 2025 grew 3.6 times compared with the first quarter, reflecting strong demand.

The company is now extending the platform to a younger generation by enabling account holders to add their teenage relatives directly in the app.

Nguyen Hanh Linh, head of mobility at Grab Vietnam, said the initiative responds to teens' growing need to travel for school, training, entertainment, dining, and shopping.

"With this solution, users aged 13–17 can independently book rides and access Grab's full range of services, while their parents or guardians can monitor trips, manage usage, and make cashless payments.

"We believe this feature allows Grab to serve both individuals and families while supporting the care of loved ones," she added.

To maintain high safety standards, Grab has introduced multiple enhanced protections for teen users of the new feature, ensuring a secure and reliable experience for both young riders and their families.

Grab carefully selects drivers, assigning trips only to partners with five-star ratings and no record of safety violations.

Each ride requires personal identification number (PIN) verification to ensure teens board the correct vehicle.

The AudioProtect feature is automatically activated on all GrabCar and GrabBike trips for teen members, securely recording journeys in compliance with legal and privacy regulations, with recordings automatically deleted after five days unless a safety issue is reported.

Grab is also exploring generative AI integration to further strengthen AudioProtect.

Parents or guardians can monitor trips in real time and receive instant notifications from booking to ride completion.

The GrabChat app allows communication among teen users, guardians, and drivers.

In addition to GrabCar and GrabBike, teen members can use GrabFood and GrabMart, with age-restricted items such as alcoholic beverages blocked to ensure safe and responsible use.

Family account holders can invite and approve teen users via phone number or a dedicated invitation link.
