Police and local militia blocked the street to ensure safety while workers used excavators, concrete cutters, and drills to dismantle buildings.

Residents were allowed to enter only to remove personal belongings.

The project affects 597 households in Lang Ward, which are required to vacate land for construction.

Local officials said all affected households in the ward have now handed over their property, allowing demolition and site clearance to proceed.

Residents said compensation has been provided for land acquisition.

Co Thi Oanh, 60, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper she had handed over 43 square meters of her property and received VND4.7 billion (US$178,653) in compensation.

She said she supports the project but she is waiting for official handover records to update her land registry.

The Ring Road 1 section between Hoang Cau and Voi Phuc is 2.2 kilometers long and 50 meters wide, carried out with a total investment of over VND7.2 trillion ($273.7 million) from the city budget.

The project, approved in December 2017, was originally scheduled for completion in 2020 but it was delayed due to land clearance issues.

Authorities in Hanoi said most residents have cooperated with relocation efforts, with only one case in Giang Vo Ward requiring forced land recovery.

City leaders have instructed agencies to complete all land clearance by next Monday.
