The driver, identified as 36-year-old Dau Khac Thang from Tien Trang Commune in Thanh Hoa Province, was driving his taxi from My Dinh Stadium in Tu Liem Ward, Hanoi to a repair shop in the city's An Khanh Commune on October 4 when he encountered a section of the service road in Trung Thuong Village, Son Dong Commune that was heavily flooded.
Instead of waiting for the water to subside, Thang turned around and drove against traffic toward Hoa Lac.
About 100 meters past a railway underpass, his taxi collided head-on with a motorcycle ridden by 22-year-old T.D.L., a Hanoi resident.
The impact knocked the motorcyclist unconscious.
He was taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries.
The motorcycle was severely damaged.
Police are calling for witnesses to come forward with any information about the crash.
