Hanoi police charge motorcyclist with attempted murder for pushing officer toward moving truck

Investigators said the suspect, Dang Tu Thinh, from Phuong Duc Commune on the outskirts of Hanoi, was stopped by a traffic patrol on Thursday afternoon for riding a motorbike without a helmet and on suspicion of using a fake license plate.

When officers ordered him to bring the motorcycle to a checkpoint for inspection, Thinh asked police to overlook the violations.

After the request was denied, he was caught on camera grabbing captain Nguyen Duy Diep and shoving him toward a truck traveling on the road.

Police said Diep avoided the collision and detained Thinh shortly afterward, handing him over to local authorities.

Hanoi police have opened a criminal case and placed Thinh in temporary detention as the investigation continues.
