Hanoi to break ground on 7 mega projects worth over $79bn tomorrow

Hanoi is set to simultaneously start work on seven major infrastructure and urban development projects with a combined investment exceeding VND2 quadrillion (US$79 billion) on Friday.

The groundbreaking ceremonies are aimed at welcoming the 14th National Party Congress, scheduled for January 19-25, 2026.

Red River landscape boulevard

The Red River Landscape Boulevard project will cover an estimated 11,000 hectares and include an 80-kilometer boulevard.

It will also feature about 3,300 hectares of parks and recreational space, and 2,100 hectares earmarked for land clearance and urban redevelopment.

The project stretches along the Red River from Hong Ha Bridge to Me So Bridge, passing through 19 wards and communes.

On the right bank, it runs through 12 communes and wards, including O Dien, Thuong Cat, Dong Ngac, Phu Thuong, Hong Ha, Vinh Tuy, Vinh Hung, Linh Nam, Hoang Mai, Thanh Tri, Nam Phu, and Hong Van.

On the left bank, it crosses seven areas such as Me Linh, Thien Loc, Vinh Thanh, Dong Anh, Bo De, Long Bien, and Bat Trang.

The project will carry a price tag of VND855 trillion ($32.5 billion), with completion targeted for 2030.

Olympic sports urban complex

The Olympic Sports Urban Complex project is envisioned as a modern, integrated urban-sports hub capable of hosting major regional and international sporting events such as the Asian Games and the Olympic Games.

The project is expected to enhance technical and social infrastructure while creating a contemporary architectural and landscape space in southern Hanoi.

Spanning over 9,170 hectares across 11 communes in the southern part of the city, the project will be divided into four functional zones, including A, B, C, and D.

Particularly, Zone A will follow a transit-oriented development (TOD) model, serving as a transport hub supporting the main sports complex in Zone B, which will feature the world-class Trong Dong Stadium.

Zones C and D will focus on sports-oriented urban and service developments.

Total preliminary investment is estimated at over VND925.6 trillion ($35.1 billion), with a planned population of about 751,000.

Van Cao-Hoa Lac metro line

The Van Cao-Hoa Lac urban railway line will be built to double-track standards with a gauge of 1,435mm and a total length of nearly 39km, with 6.5km underground, 2km elevated, and some 30km at ground level.

The line will include 21 stations, with six underground ones, one elevated station, and 14 ground-level stations.

Two depots are planned – one in the former Hoai Duc District covering about 18 hectares and another in the former Thach That District spanning nearly 6.9 hectares.

The project will cost VND65 trillion ($2.5 billion).

To Lich river park

Hanoi authorities have selected Sun Group Corporation as the winning investor for a large-scale project to renovate and rebuild a linear park along both banks of the To Lich River, with construction slated to begin on Friday.

The To Lich River park project spans some 737,930 square meters and carries a price tag of more than VND4.6 trillion ($178 million).

The project will run along the To Lich River through multiple wards, including Ngoc Ha, Nghia Do, Lang, Giang Vo, Cau Giay, Yen Hoa, Thanh Xuan, Dong Da, Khuong Dinh, Dinh Cong, Thanh Liet, and Hoang Liet.

The construction will run until the fourth quarter of 2028.

Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway

The Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway project will have a total length of 419km, starting at the border rail connection in Lao Cai Province and ending at Lach Huyen Station in Hai Phong City.

Total investment is estimated at over VND203.2 trillion ($7.7 billion).

The line will feature 18 stations.

Trains will operate at speeds of up to 160km per hour on the main section, 120km per hour through Hanoi and on the eastern ring route, and 80km per hour on branch lines.

Tien Duong 1 social housing project

The Tien Duong 1 social housing project in Phuc Thinh Commune covers nearly 45 hectares with total investment exceeding VND9.3 trillion ($352 million), including about VND617 billion ($23.4 million) for compensation and resettlement.

More than 13 hectares is allocated for social housing and 3.3 hectares for commercial housing.

Upon completion, the project is expected to supply over 3,100 social housing units, 427 commercial apartments, and 99 low-rise houses, alongside a full range of amenities from preschool to middle education.

Road connecting Gia Binh Airport with Hanoi

The road linking Gia Binh Airport in Bac Ninh Province with Hanoi will be some 35km long and 120m wide.

It carries a price tag of over VND71 trillion ($2.7 billion).

The route will begin at Gia Binh Airport and end at the interchange between the approach road to Tu Lien Bridge and Hanoi’s Ring Road No. 3.

In the capital, the route is 14km long, 12m wide, with a total investment of some VND42.4 trillion ($1.6 billion).
